It's not the content of the ad - I'm pro-spaying/neutering.
It's not that I have love for the "Octomom" - she's pretty tasteless.
But, PETA putting up this ad in Octomom's lawn? Tasteless. Octomom accepting money for this ad to be put up in her lawn? Tacky.
And that's exactly what happened: Tasteless, meet tacky.
Oh, if only there were some sort of hole in the ground both PETA's board and Octomom could fall into, to live out the rest of their lives without us having to hear from them ever again... I can dream, can't I?

Sudden outbreak of common sense
In a sudden outbreak of common sense, Swiss Voters decided by a 70 to 30 slide that really, people don't need to appoint lawyers for trout, and other animals. The WHO has commented that this common sense is not contagious, and there's no risk of the common sense epidemic spreading to other countries.

Lawyers for Lamprey?
Switzerland as a country has officially jumped the shark. Well, they would have, if they hadn't have decided that Sharks deserve better. On March 7th, they're going to vote on whether animals deserve lawyers.
They're going to vote on whether animals deserve lawyers.
I need a lawyer to represent me for all the pain and mental anguish this story has caused me trying to wrap my head around it.
On the other hand, dead fish have feelings too, I guess.
They're going to vote on whether animals deserve lawyers.
The debate took on a new dimension two weeks ago when prosecutors in the canton of Zurich accused an angler of having tortured a large pike, because the battle between man and beast took about 10 minutes.Wh... what? Huh? Who? Seriously? Seriously?
Goetschel, in his capacity as the canton's animal lawyer, was in court to represent the dead fish. He regrets that the case, which isn't typical of his work, received so much attention.

PETA - Plants aren't alive? Crap, someone tell the botanists!
Plants aren't alive? Crap, someone tell the botanists!PETA, showing their typical infinite-tact-and-grace... well, a quote from this:
Lindsay Rajt, campaign manager for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, said the billboards were prompted by the recent shooting death of abortion doctor George Tiller, who was killed Sunday at his church.Because obviously, discussion of that senseless murder, the cultural divide, our nations values and the role of personal freedom is improved by talking about vegetarianism, too.

Construction and Cat Fights.
As a vaguely nautical sort of update, my boat is coming along nicely. The family has been privy to photos my boat, but until it is a bit further along, and I can take it away from my home, I won't be sharing it at blogspot. I know my anonymity is razor thin, but there's no point blowing what little I have. Sorry, folks! I can add that saws work great on humans and wood, a fact that I'm slowly shaking off. Just because they're slower than powertools doesn't mean hand-tools can't inflict some ouch!
I'm not the only one in summer construction mode. Apparently they're getting ready to re-pave Chena Hot Springs road. They claim it'll only take 3 months, which is an optomistic lie. It'll probably take closer to 5+ months. Oh well, so long as they do it before the aurora is out, and it's cold again. I don't much care if tourists have to deal with ugly road equipment on their way to go soak in a tub... :}
In sanctomonious idiot related news, PETA is out targeting medical students again. This time, they're going after emergency technicians who are trained in intubation on anestized cats. I completely agree. When we have medical personel intubading people, I want them to have never done it on a living thing before. It's the `toss them into the river and watch them sink or swim` school of education taken to medicine.
I have one stipulation, though. Under this training system, no new medical technicians are allowed to intubate me until they've learnt by trial and error on a few PETA members, first.

PETA actually gets one right!

AN ANIMAL rights organisation has asked the Oxford English Dictionary to change its definition of the word ‘fisherman’.Normally, that gets a Yawn. PETA does more moronic stunts all the time. Kentucky Derby's coming up - how much you want to bet at some point someone will have horse blood thrown at them? No doubt they'll compare someone to Nazis. One of their cretins will light some cars on fire, and maybe rough up a few stable hands before the race. The usual. But then I saw their definitions:
Peta offered the following revised definitions of the word: l A person ignorant of, oblivious to or indifferent to the fact that he or she is inflicting pain by catching, suffocating, stabbing and gutting fish; someone who is hooked on cruelty.
Yawn. Not even creative.
l A person who “relaxes” by impaling water-dwelling animals; often a person too out of shape to participate in a real sport.
Ever see PETA people up close? They tend to be really frail. Need to eat some fat and protein! Anyhow, yawn again.
l A man looking for an excuse to wear thigh-high waders.
Oooooooh. I actually like that one. 's true. I tend to wear chest waders, myself, but it's easy enough - just say `any excuse to wear waders.` My one complaint is that it leaves women out of fishing. I think they thought that'd be more insulting that it actually is... : )

PETA - Consistent in their inconsistency.
WASHINGTON DC – Today the nonprofit Center for Consumer Freedom (CCF) published documents online showing that People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) killed 95 percent of the adoptable pets in its care during 2008. Despite years of public outrage over its euthanasia program, the animal rights group kills an average of 5.8 pets every day at its Norfolk, VA headquarters. This press released from the aptly named Petakillsanimals.com. CCF is against PETA, so they're slightly biased, but what's public record is public record. PETA doesn't even try to deny the allegations, but engages in ad-hominem attacks against the CCF. I slept through that day of class, but I think that's one of those logical falacy things.
According to public records from the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, PETA killed 2,124 pets last year and placed only seven in adoptive homes. Since 1998, a total of 21,339 dogs and cats have died at the hands of PETA workers.
They give their usual line about "Well, gosh, we get so many animals that are abused," and "We send all the adoptable pets to proper shelters!" Apparently they only got 5 adoptable animals. But that's besides the point. Remember, PETA says that any a) animal ownership and b) euthanasia is inherently cruel or inhumane. Their stated goal is "total animal liberation." Which means they're against... what they're currently doing. PETA has dammed shelters for putting down fewer animals.
Of course, if you've paid attention to them over the years, you know PETA killing animals (and frequently illegally dumping the bodies) is nothing new. They're fairly consistent in their hypocrisy.
Here's a little something from the comic, IdiotBox. The KKK thing? Really happened.

Soylent Tofu is people! People!
PETA continues its unrelenting war against sanity, plotting to release a brand new, much sought after commodity into the world market place: George Clooney flavoured Tofu. I had to re-read three times to make sure I got it right, because the idea is so confusing... but so obvious! Who wouldn't want a block of George Clooney in their fridge? If they make this, I'd buy a dozen, and make a little tofu statue of George Clooney in my home. And we'll bake him, and have him for Quyavik like a TofuTurkey, but with better acting credits.
I don't think I need to say this is hitting on a big market of people who want to date George Clooney, but can't afford to get the actual flesh of George Clooney. Brilliant! And after you take your ToFlooney home from your date, and he's stiffed you on the bill, you can fry him up with some rice and have TuFlooney stirfry.
Tip of the dingo hat to Dave

PETA - Making brazen hypocracy fashionable again.
Everyone's favourite animal terrorist nutters, PETA, continue to astound with how twofaced they can be. For example - using any animal tested medicine is wrong and unethical... unless it's a member of one of these animal right terrorist groups who needs that medicine.
The problem is, she's an animal rights activist, and she's trying to justify her hypocrisy of having taken treatments for her cancer that had been tested by spreading the same misinformation about animal research that animal rights are known for spreading far and wide. Dying or not, she needs to be called out for spreading falsehoods. Her name is Simon Chaitowitz, and she is the former Communications director for the animal rights group masquerading as a legitimate physicians' group, the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, a crank organization dedicated to eliminating animal research that has had as one of its luminaries the apologist for animal rights terrorism, Jerry Vlasak. We've had examples before, where one of PETA's board of directors members uses animal products to sustain her own life:
Like more than ten million Americans, [PETA Senior Vice President Mary Beth Sweetland]’s diabetic. Sweetland injects herself daily with insulin that was tested on animals; she has conceded that her medicine “still contains some animal products -- and I have no qualms about it…. I don’t see myself as a hypocrite. I need my life to fight for the rights of animals.”It's nice to see them branch out into new and exciting doublestandards. All of us are horrible people for using animal derrived medicine. For them, it's a required step for keeping up the good fight.

PETA opposes both bacon and doctors.
Ah, PETA. Where would we be without you.
According to the Daily Minor News, the latest thing making them angry is that Army doctors are getting training on live animals, as opposed to half-assing it by playing `Operation` followed by watching a few episodes of House, M.D. They call it `using sophisticated simulators.` I agree. I think doctors should only learn on simplified, non-realistic proxies for living biology. The less life like, the better, so that way when complications arise in real humans, they have no clue what to do. That might sound like a bad thing, but remember that doctors are arrogant bastards, and they need put in their place!
Here's my own suggestion: To simulate battlefield medicine, done under stress, they should play Operation as a drinking game. Each time they buzz, they have to take a shot. Let's see them remove the funny bone after a few shots of tequila!
You know, your priorities are totally screwed up when you look at an organization who's job is to kill people and decide that the most inhumane part about them is that they train to save lives on animals.

Update on the Sea Kittens.
Tundra Drums did a story about the PETA sea kitten campaign, and I noticed a lovely quote:
Oh, I can see their trip to Dutch Harbor going just swimmingly.
Any plans on visiting Dutch Harbor with your campaign?Try not to educate them too much, Alaska Steve. Their poor little brains might 'asplode.
We definitely want to come to Alaska. I don’t know exactly where we’ll be going, but I know that it’s on our list.
Oh, I can see their trip to Dutch Harbor going just swimmingly.

You're kidding me, right?
I promise to do some science posts soon. This is natural-resources related, so I feel it's kosher. ;)My favourite moonbats, PETA, have engaged in another campaing more to show what absolute idiots they are compared to a ward full of decapitation victims. They're engaged in a campaign to rename Fish 'Sea Kittens.'
Pardon me, but were you born a flaming idiot, or did you have to work hard to become this stupid?
Peta writes,
Of course, if you look at it another way, what all this really means is that fish need to fire their PR guy—stat. Whoever was in charge of creating a positive image for fish needs to go right back to working on the Britney Spears account and leave our scaly little friends alone. You've done enough damage, buddy. We've got it from here. And we're going to start by retiring the old name for good. When your name can also be used as a verb that means driving a hook through your head, it's time for a serious image makeover. And who could possibly want to put a hook through a sea kitten? The stupid. It burns.
Why stop there, I wonder? I mean, if you're goign to be absurd, go all out! Let's rename Cows `your daughter's puppies.` Who would possibly want to eat their daughter's puppies? And milking them, dear god, that just sounds wrong! But we can go further, folks! Let's rename asparagus `Human Babies!` No one in their right mind could eat a plate full of deep fried, beer battered Human Babies! We must stop the slaughter at once!
For the record? I don't advocate fishing for people's pet fish, just like I don't advocate killing people's kittens. If you release your fish into the stream out back, or let your kitten run free in the wild, all bets are off - it becomes an imparitive to capture that animal, to control an invasive species. But in your aquarium or livingroom floor, either are safe.
Well, actually, if you have a kitten in an aquarium, the cat has some breathing problems.
What's so ironic about this bit of bilge from these Domestic Terrorist jerkwads, is that PETA is for total animal liberation. They don't want you to own pets, period. They oppose the very institution of animal ownership. So, while we're talking about kittens, now might be a nice time to mention how PETA wants to prevent you from ever owning a Kitten in the first place.
I'll throw out the usual bit of PETA hypocracy here, about how PETA kills animals while lecturing us about how killing fish is wrong.

PETA - now with 90% more lying

In New Jersey, PETA has unveiled an ad campaign telling parents of Autistic kids that they are to blame for their child's autism (great conversation starter right there!) by... wait for it... employing cruelty to animals. Bamn! You didn't see that coming! The campaign posits that parents who give their children milk are to blame. Which would be terrible, given how big dairy is in the US, except that it's entirely not true.
PETA continues to boldly show that they won't let trifle things like facts get in the way of their goal - total animal `liberation.` And here you thought only the Anti-Vaccination disease mongers could appeal to a disease to try and push through their luddite views on health technology.

Wackaloons write letters
You can't make this stuff up. PETA, everyone's favourite terrorist-supporting wackaloons, wrote an open letter to Ben and Jerry's, asking them to switch from making ice cream with cow milk to... wait for it... human milk.
It's just cruel to milk cows. Cruel and horrendous. You should be ashamed.
But it's okay to do it to humans.
I'm curious where they got the `cows make 10 times more milk than they would naturally` figure. There is no data on cow lactation pre-domestication. Here's the reason why: they've been domesticated since, oh, 7 or 8 thousand years. Aurochs, the progenitor of cattle, went extinct about 400 years ago, and were critically endangered for at least 400-600 years before that. It could be that PETA has unearthed a repository of ancient physiology numbers.
Or, they could just be making stuff up again.
